Question of the Day

Today, as I was reading some of the blogs that I follow, I was noticing the different types of homesteading that there were.  Some people specialize in canning, some in sewing, some in growing and some in decorating.  But, in my humble opinion, they are all still a type of homesteading.  I mean, it's important to have these skills.  So what is your specialty?

Growing crops and animals canning kind of goes with growing vegetables.

I'm a homesteader of all trades. I especially like getting milk and meat from my jersey cows, but I enjoy the harvest from my garden, too.

No specialty here.
I have a natural gift for delivering over sized or twin lambs, and a green thumb.
But if I had to pick a homesteading skill, without a doubt my favorites are sewing, spinning and knitting.
I hate to cook and I'm no beekeeper.

Just bought 10 acres in a northwest state. Leaving California next springs so I have yet to discover what my talent will be. Only have 1 acre in the foothills right now with chickens and raised vegi beds. I guess I'm good at raising vegi's and herbs but I'll need to learn how to can. Look forward to my first steer. Reading lots and printing lots of good info. Thanks for your blog.

I enjoy gardening to provide food for my family. This food is then canned, dehydrated, or put in the freezer.

Cooking is my forte!

You want me to pick one???? We've no animals so I'm not surewe count as homesteaders but, growing & preserving what we eat Is at the top of the list. After that is knitting sewing and spinning...which is how I make my income

I like growing fruit & nuts, permanent type crops. Lately I've been trying to find ways to elevate my crops to make it easier to keep out weeds & work the crops. I used to grow more veggies, but had to face the fact I suck at growing several kinds I like to eat, so have been concentrating on the ones I know I can have the most success with. I like to have chickens & a few goats & cows, maybe a pig once a year. Also have been hopeful to get a primative campground started for hunters... Mike.

Basically I like to wrap my family in the quilts I make, their feet in the socks I knit, fill their bellies with the food I grow. Perhaps my specialty is love. Everything else I do is just to please me.

Our specialties are:
-growing ALL of our own fruits, vegetables, and mushrooms (and harvesting nuts in the woods).

-We don't raise animals for meat but we have egg-laying chickens and honeybees.

-Woodworking is our strong point because we make all of our furniture.

-Very minimalist lifestyle overall...make rag rugs, soap, tap maple syrup, etc.
