Happy Goats

Do you know how to make a goat happy? Give them this....

Mud says,"Hey, where's mine?"

"Oh, okay, thanks!"

Pure bliss.

Hanna wouldn't even come out for her picture.

So until next time,

Chicken Dog

As you all know by now, we have a St. Bernard named Luke. He weights around 150 pounds. He protects the family with all of his might. He can scare off anyone that wants to deliver a package, or read our electric meter. He is forocious.........Until it thunders. He is such a big CHICKEN!

So early this morning we had a storm. Nothing that would shake the house or blow over a small goat, just your run of the mill thunder storm.  This big baby stratched at the door and whined until I let him in the house. Hubby had already left for work so I though, "What can it hurt?"
He acts really good inside. He just lays around like a rug. You have to watch sometimes, you could easily step on him.

Well, I went back to bed. He just came in and layed down in the bedroom. No problem. Then the smell hit me. Have you ever smelled a  wet dog. It's not a good smell. My whole bedroom started to smell like wet dog. YUCK! So I thought I will just go to sleep and not notice the smell. We have a concrete floor, so I don't have to worry about him getting anything dirty.

I was just starting to doze off to sleep when the heavy breathing started. You all know what I mean. The unmistakeable sound of a dog who is hot, panting. It went on and on. I looked up and at the foot of my bed, Luke was setting there watching me sleep.

"Luke? What are you doing?"

Tail wagged, panting stopped.

I laid back down. Started to go back to sleep again. Pant, pant, pant.  I looked back at the foot of the bed. Luke stared back at me. Panting.  "Stop it!" Head went down, and panting stopped.

I just start to go to sleep. Then the worst sound came from the end of the bed.  The sound of LICKING! AAAAUUUUGGGGGG!!!!!!! That's it! The rain had stopped the dog went back outside!

So unil next time,

Small Farm Girl, sleep deprived.

Really?!

People are just NOW seeing that prices are going to go up? Gas going up=Everything else going up.  For all of the people out there that laughed at me for getting chickens, a milk goat, and growing my own food.....Who looks like the smart one now?

That may have sounded mean, but people who have thought I was crazy before, are NOW the ones asking ME questions about gardens and chickens. Are they just now getting it? I guess, better late than never.

So until next time,

Small Farm Girl, prepper.

New Addition

Yes, I know. It's been a while since I posted on here. Very, very, busy!!!!I'm trying to get my ducks in a row so that I can quit my job. Now,if I had any ducks, it would be easier. lol. I haven't actually told anyone at work that I am quiting. That scares me to death! Hard telling what will happen. I don't know if it will be a good experiance or a bad one. Oh well, it's going to be done. Hopefully soon.

But anyway, enough about that. He and Hubby were out driving around the other day. (That's what we do for a date. Although if gas keeps going up, that might have to quit too.) This is something that we saw. This is a firebrick furnace. You can find these all over this part of the country. Although you can't tell it in this picture, this thing is over 30 feet tall. It is GIGANTIC!!!!! I'm not sure how they used them, but I'm going to check into it. You can go walking out in the woods and come upon one of these things. They are everywhere and they are amazing.

Although we have been saving out money, I couldn't resist this. Meet the new member of our family. This is Hannah

She is a nubian. Which of course equals MILK!!!!!!She is already milking! And, of course, we are already drinking it! YUMMMMMMM!!!!! She is the sweetest thing in the world. She will lay her head on you and just look up into your eyes like she is in love. I know she is a little small for a nubian, but, I just love her.

She come from a farm that I found around here. This lady has over 140 goats! Could you imagine? 140! They all are just as sweet as Hannah. Her farm is set up just wonderfully. I wished I had gotten pictures of all of her little barns and pens. It was so organized.

I did get a picture of these little fellers though. The one furthest away is Hannah's little buckling. He wanted to climb all over me whenever we sat down. I could have played with thoses babies forever!!!! When I was talking about finding something that I really wanted to do to bring in money. Well, I think I found it. I'm not going to get rich, but with things like these to play with, who cares?

So until next time,

Small Farm Girl, goat lover.
