Question of the Day

If you are on a diet and you eat a double yolked egg, do you count it as one egg or two?

Well it's only one shell....

So I use this online meal planning thingie, and it freaks out whenever I declare that I'm going to eat an egg. Cholesterol?? You can't have cholesterol! So I lie. That's right. I said it. I lie, lie, lie. I put in "scrambled egg made from cholesterol free mixture," and the meal planner is happy again.

How is a computer program supposed to know that my eggs are better than what you get at the grocery store? It hasn't seen those dark, orange yolks. It doesn't know how rich in Omega 3's these things are or how our free-range girls eat a more diversified diet than most americans.

Okay, I get a little carried away about this one. But my point is valid. Eat that double-yolker and smile.

I think if they are your farm raised eggs, you are getting a benifit, since they actually are an egg, not a nothing in a shell, but I suppose, if you want to get technical, it would probably be two eggs, calorie wise. But ya know what? I would say that taylorgirl6 isn't too far off. If you don't eat a dozen more today, just enjoy it and go on.

Have a great day,
Cat

Call it one and a half eggs and have done with it. Or count it as "roll-over" calories...once you reach your daily allotment, the rest of the day's calories are "rolled over" from whenever it was you didn't get all the calories you were due that day. OK, so that might have been two or three months ago (if you're like me) but if the banks can do creative accounting and get away with it, why can we? Besides, we don't have to diet, we're perfect just the way we are! Right? Of course, right!

I agree with Taylorgirl6, it's in one shell. So it's just one egg. And I can tell you SFG's eggs are just wonderful and such dark golden yolks. I only have two left and will bake something with them. I don't know how I will be able to buy store bought eggs now, after eating her eggs. I'm going to have to find a local egg person. So, my vote is ONE egg....debbie

The calories are pretty much all in the yolks, as that is the fat. The white is albumen, or pure protein. Some calories, but not nearly so much as the yolk.

If you are strictly counting calories and fat, counting the egg as two would be closer. But I'd go for separate counts to get a more accurate idea. One yolk contains approximately 60 calories, and one egg white contains approximately 15 calories.

But if they are from your own pastured chickens... it's ALL GOOD! :o)

Only if I was on an All-Egg diet. hehe

Double yolks are cool. It's like two for the price of one.

Enjoy!

I say count it as one since it came out of one shell! =)

Um, I think you have to count it as two because you didn't sign off with something clever ;-D.

LOLOL...well if you break the yolk...it then becomes just "an egg"...right....LOL...!!! God Bless...Ora in Kentucky....down the road aways

that is an interesting questions...and I like the answer Ora gave! However, if your looking for a serious answer, I guess it would count as two b/c arn't the majority of the calories and cholestoral in the yolk? Just guessing.
