If you look real close at this picture, you might be able to tell what it is. It's an incubator! We are going to hatch our own chicks this year!

And since I had other things to do than sit on some eggs myself, I decided to get an incubator from my mom and dad. I'll tell you how they do.

These are a few of the proud mommas.(Okay, they don't know they are going to be mommas. Technically, they wont ever know. Now that I think about it, isn't that sad? I wonder if they feel used. Oh wait, they don't know. I won't tell them if you wont.)

Oh, another proof spring is on it's way!

Don't you like my little helpers?

I had so many helpful comments about whether to count the double yolk egg as two eggs or one, I decided to go with "Who cares! Just eat it and enjoy!" hehehehe.

So until next time,

Small Farm Girl, double yolk egg eater.

I know this is going to be a dumb question, but how do you know if it's been fertilized or not? And how do they get fertilized. Please don't laugh, I have no idea about these things. I really like your black and white chickens! So pretty!...debbie

Debbie, that is not a dumb question. I've had a lot of people ask me that. Well first there is this stork.......Okay, not really. We really don't have proof that the eggs are fertilized. But, we leave the roosters(2)with the hens all the time. Well, boys being boys, they can't keep their paws..uh,wings off of them. Have you ever seen birds mateing? It's the same thing. It actually looks violent. The rooster grabs the hen by her comb, jumps on her back and has his way with her. You would think he would at least bring her flowers.

Love your clothesline. I am having trouble finding one around here. It's apparently against the rules of most "neighborhoods" so no one sells the anymore. GRRRRR!

Oh lucky you getting to hang your clothes out to dry. I love the smell of fresh laundry from outside. Sadly because of our lack of humidity up here, the clothes dry within an hour and are always so stiff and dry feeling...like cardboard. So, I just use my dryer. I envy you those clothes lines, though. I really truly do. And seeing your cute doxie dog and the chickens out there, too. Doesn't get anymore country than that! :)

How fun that you're going to hatch out some eggs soon. I'd love to do that, too. As it is our Japanese Silkie hen takes care of that for us. She's always going broody. I think she lives to sit on a clutch. She's a good Mama, too. She raised our last trio of chicks and we didn't have to do anything.

I just wish she would have hatched out more hens. Two roosters and only one hen wasn't a good ratio. Want a rooster? Free?
lol!

Your hens are beautiful, by the way.
