We were very busy this weekend. If you ask me what we did, I probably couldn't tell you. My mind has been in a whirlwind lately. Once again, if you asked me what about, I couldn't tell you. hehehe. I feel like we have been doing a million things, but haven't gotten anything done. I'm sure you all have been there.
I get like this around this time of year, every year. I wonder if I'm doing the right thing. If I'm going down the right path when it comes to our farm. Should I buy an expensive buck for our goats? Should I show the goats? Should I keep doing what I'm doing with them? Are they just a waste of money? What about the rabbits? Are they a waste of money too? Should we build our cattle herd again? Are they more work than what they are worth? What is our goal for our farm? It's like this EVERY. YEAR.
So I look at the constants in my life hoping that by doing this, it will get me back into focus. I know I want chickens. I have no problem with them. Yea!!! Although, I wonder if I should keep them free range or put them in a coop. (If it ever gets done. lol) I'll probably pick both. I'll let them out just a bit every so often. See, chickens are easy.
I'll probably keep my rabbits. Even if I don't make money with them, I can butcher them for our own meat. If someone wants to buy one every now and then, that's fine too. They aren't much trouble and you can have as many or as few as you want to have. Rabbits are simple.
I know I would like to write more. I always have and I always will. Now, if I could only MAKE time to do it. My mind, right now, doesn't want to come up with any good topics. Plus, I still have to get a good camera. They cost a lot of money and that isn't something that we have a lot of right now. I guess if we keep the goats and cows, at least that would give me something to write about. LOL.
So you see, I flip flop more than a Olympic gymnast. Maybe I should run for congress. lol. I'll keep you all posted on what's going on. In fact, I'm think I'll write about things that just pop into my head. You would be amazed at some of the stuff. :)
So until next time,
Small Farm Girl, flip flopper.
Thank you for your honesty. We are still very new to just having a garden and I have been plagued with the same "Is this worth it, am I overdoing it, Am I expecting too much out of this?" It is good to know I am not the only one questioning what I am doing while running around doing a million things, but finding 2 million more to do. Thank you.
Oh, Pooka and Mommy, I was starting to wonder if there was actually something wrong with me. lol. Glad I'm just... well, normal. hehehe
I am hoping its not something wrong with you, becuase that means I am right there with you. Glad I could help. Sometimes just hearing your not alone, makes it alot easier.
You sound like us! But not with the animals LOL! Sometimes its seems we are spinning our wheels yet going 100 MPH with nothing to show for our efforts...which is why I love gardening best, efforts always show good or bad.
Free range sounds great, but in practice the neighbor's dogs will get most of your chickens. Red-tailed hawks will get an occasional young chicken. Here's what my grandma did: Every evening, two hours before dark, she turned her chickens out. When they went back to the chicken house to roost, she shut the door because otherwise possums, raccoons, and foxes would kill them. You gotta know when to hold 'em and when to fold 'em.
so much to do and so little time to do it all...take a deep breath or two, and write down each day what it is you expect to accomplish. when the job is done, then just check it off and move on to the next. soon this will become a habit. best of all is knowing that even God himself had to use up a whole seven days to make the world go round. :)
Katidids, your right! lol
Donna, our chickens are free range right now. I put them up at night and let them out in the morning. Our dog, is just the opposite. I let him lose at night to roam our land. I was wondering about free range this year because of the garden. They LOVE to eat my tomatoes. I'm not having that this year. lol
This flip flopping too shall pass. Just live in the moment and it all comes together. :) Chickens are fun to relax with . Our free range during th day and get locked in the coop nights
i am a self proclaimed lurker on farm and ranch blogs, a country wanna be.
I can't speak to the farm issues but the flip flopping is normal for me whenever I have decisions to make. I too find that writing it down helps.
Life is too short, get any camera you can afford and 'go for it'.
We will be happy to read about whatever just pops into your head! :)
Willow, you are right! Live in the moment.
Mary, lurk all you want!!! lol. I like the way you think! I'm gonna look for me a camera! lol
Candy C. If you only knew...... ;)
I can't even start my blog as so many thought and projects run through my head at once. Helps me to know that's okay!
Any tips on how to get started blogging? I think I need to to make some kinda since out of what goes on in my life. I farm, ranch, garden, ride horses(want to compete), startint to show cattle, AND commute 2 hours daily to job in big city. I've erased my post several times because I just seem to ramble.
Unknown, Sounds like you have a LOT of things to write about. Just introduce yourself and tell what you did that day. Ramble away!!! It worked for me! :)
