I was setting on my front porch this evening writing a letter,(wink Kelle)when something caught my eye. Two deer! They weren't more than 25 yards from me! Skeeter went down to investigate them. She spooked them a little. They ran for about 2 steps and it was like they said,"Hey, we're bigger than she is." So they turned around and started to chasing HER! I laughed until I cried. Then it hit me. There are two deer in my yard! My yard, the yard that has my garden in it! I've lived here 11 yrs, and we have never had deer problems. Never. Rabbits, yes, chickens, yes, but, never deer. I think Luke, our St. Bernard, invites them in.

So if anyone out there has suggestions on how to keep deer out of our garden, feel free to comment. Please.

So for now....

Deer, black bear, moose, coons, skunk, rabbits, crows, you name we fight it here! Okay don't pee your pants laughing but actually human urine deters deer. Also I tried Irish Spring soap, via a hint from a elderly gentleman in our area. He swears by it, the deer don't like the smell, so... I put it by our melons( that they'd been eating) and guess what they stopped eating the melons, so added 5 bars of Irish Spring(original) soap to our shopping list for this season.

Plant a bigger Garden?! LolI have heard the soap thing before never tried it though. I have also heard Motion sensor lights, Fences.. We have had deer in our yard but they never really bothered my garden But they had 260+ acres of free running across the road...

My neighbors might say something if they look out their windows and see me squatted down out by the garden. lol. But, if it stops the deer.......hehehehe

I've heard about the soap before, but I haven't tried it. I've also heard of people going to the beauty shop and getting hair to scatter around. The urine is a new one on me, but hey, whatever works. I suppose with all the methods it's just about making it smell like human, so that they will be scared to enter.

We have 3 doe and 1 male. Doe and buck to walk by the hill and look at us. Our doe no fear! They live with us. When you drink our morning coffee, they graze the grass! This is wonderful!

I have a major deer population where I live and have "shared" my garden several times...I take 5 eggs, A Tblspoon minced garlic juice, 1 Tblspoon hot sauce and mix it all with water, put it in a garden sprayer...I spray my plants with it once a week...I am the ONLY one in my neighborhood with flower buds and vegetables...lol! the mixture stinks to high heaven but does not last for more than five minutes...works wonders...apply after rain too...
