What?!

I just about had a heart attack when I tried to get on my blog today. It said that it didn't exist! What! I don't exist? I'm confused? Well, whatever happened........I'm back!!!! Whew!

Anyway, back to the real world. I've been doing really good with my diet and have taken a walk every day except Sunday. ( Come on! I need a break sometime!lol) I feel better already!  When I found out I had high cholesterol, the nurse asked if I wanted her to send me a recommended diet. Sure! Why not? Well, I got it in the mail two days ago and I just about sent it back to them. The foods that they recommended me to eat were things like, white bread, bagels, margarine and store bought pancakes. Then it said that I should avoid foods like nuts and avocados and beef. What! Seriously?! Who writes these things? If that is what people are suppose to be eating and avoiding, no wonder this nation is having a health problem. They are telling us to eat all of the wrong things! Are the heart surgeons and nutritionist in on this together? Are they telling us to eat this stuff so that they will never be out of a job? Because, if we all were eating the good stuff, the stuff they tell us not to eat, we wouldn't need them as much. See? Conspiracy. lol

Well, we are on baby watch around here. We will be having little doelings and bucklings running around here in a few days. YEA!!!!! I can't wait! Although, I'm really kind of scared. I know nothing about kidding. Sure, I can read all of the books, but if you haven't done it in real life, it's a whole other story. I hope everything goes alright.

Well, I guessed I have covered enough topics for today, lol.

So until next time,

Small Farm Girl, still here.

LOL

OK, I am overweight, my cardiologist wants to do a stress echo on me in July, but he wants me to have my cholesterol checked before he does the test. I asked my husband "why do I have to have it checked, is he afraid I'm going to have a heart attack on the machine?"

The last time I had my cholesterol checked was about 20 years ago, my then GP told me and I quote "Your cholesterol is too low, eat more red meat."

I had open heart surgery 13 years ago, the cardiac surgeon told me "You need protein to heal properly, when you go home today, go out and eat a big hamburger."

So...yes I believe it is a conspiracy because if I have high cholesterol now, it's because they told me to eat red meat. LOL

Have a good day, sfg. :)

That is pathetic (the "diet")!! When I was in the hospital (DD came two months early) I was amazed a the C.R.A.P. they served; Margarine, chocolate "milk" with HFCS....you had to ASK for fruit or oatmeal for breakfast. And when DD was just in the hospital for pneumonia a few weeks ago, the menu for KIDS was WORSE than crap; I kid you not, their menu consisted of pizza, FRIED cheese sticks, fried fish sticks, Trix, Captain Crunch, Chocolate "milk", egg substitutes, corn dogs and more which I obviously must have blocked out of my mind. I sent DH home to get REAL food and brought it in (luckily the hospital is only fifteen minutes away).

now remember that the special diets are recommended by the fda too...and if you are not gonna get better by their diet then they know of a pill you can take for life..i believe all these folks a re just in cahoots with the pharmaceutical companies. it is like the us govt telling everyone during world war 2 and the depression years to eat margarine instead of butter..now most margarines are far worse for your health than butter. personally, i will take my grandmothers advise about dieting...forgo all stuff that is white, get so me exercise walking or doing chores, get a good nights sleep, and you will do just fine.

Yep my hubby had the same diet. They gave him margerine at the hospital. I couldnt believe it. Yuck. He was so happy to come home and have real butter and wheat bread and actual cow's milk full fat of course. His problem is the stress factor. Hoping we can get a piece of land so he can go back to farming like he wants to. They put him on all kinds of meds too which made him sick. He decided not to take them and not to go back to the cardiologist either. His choice and actually after you read what is in the meds I would agree with him. Meet life on your terms not the docs and pharmaceutical companies...

I always wonder about the USDA food pyramid.......who sits around deciding what we should eat and how much? Then a few years later they decide that this wasn't right after all and make changes

They tell us to eat healthy foods but they fail to label the Genetically altered stuff so we don't know what's in it. Crazy!

Hi! Sounds like you're on a good start to the healthier you! I'm a chubby homesteader, but I've got no problem telling folks about my newish found better eating plan...check my blog a couple posts back for my breakfast dish. I know, I don't even follow that food pyramid, it's ridiculous, and so is telling people to solve their cholesterol problems by eating all those processed carbs...do they want you replacing the cholesterol issue with diabetes? Seems not so much commons sense prevailing there. In any case, good to see spring is finding you there, too. Can't wait to see some pics of the new babies. We just got chicks this week...new life is fun around the farm, isn't it? ~Vonnie

Nice post. For a bit of light relief you might enjoy this cartoon about the food pyramid. http://caroleschatter.blogspot.co.nz/2012/04/food-pyramid.html
