Gone

I was going to put some pictures on here, of cute little rabbits that we bought this weekend.  But instead, I'm writing a sad post.  Our St. Bernard is missing.  Gone. Out-a-here.  No where to be found.  He possibly found a girl friend somewhere and will be back in a few days, but when it comes to big dogs like that, it's unlikely he will be back.  People are scared of big dogs and have a tendency of shooting them. What's weird is, he never left my side before.  When my little dog was in heat last week, he still would make the rounds with me on the farm.  That's why I'm wondering if someone didn't pick him up.   I'm going to give him a few days to come back.  If he hasn't come back by then, I'll have to look for another dog.  We need one here on the farm.  A farm dog is very important.  It keeps coyotes and stuff away from the livestock.  This time though, if I have to get another farm dog, I'm getting something smaller.  Any suggestions?

Until next time,

Small Farm Girl, dogless,

P.s.  Don't take this post the wrong way.  I'm still looking for Jack.  I'm just being realistic.

Farm dog or not ~ my reality would searching very HARD to find my dog ( as I am sure you are ) . I would be heartbroken ,truly heartbroken if one of my dogs came up missing, they are so much a part of our family and loved dearly . Do you have neighbors you could check with I imagine a St Bernard would be hard to miss. Sending prayers and hoping he is safe somewhere.

You might want to check out a dog like Hank the Great Pyrenees on Punkin's Patch. He's terrific with her sheep and chickens. Boo the Australian Cattle Dog on The Kitchen's Garden has also turned out to be great with animals, but I think Celi has had to work very hard to keep him occupied. All the dogs we ever had chased the chickens (we weren't around to train them enough), so we've been dogless for a while.

I'm sorry to hear about your dog :( I almost went crazy when my cat went missing for 48 hours. Hope things turn out well.

We really like our Great Pyrenees for a livestock guardian. Wouldn't trade her. It's hard to lose a dog like that, especially when you don't know what happened. Blessings to you.

We have two large black rottweillers, and they both went missing a while ago, so I know how you feel. We searched for hours, but lucky for us, they did return later on that day. Hope yours returns soon. Vx

Oh, no! Hoping Jack is home safe and sound soon. As a way of suggestion...perhaps a border collie? They can help you herd and don't tend to wander much as a rule. Good luck!! ~Vonnie

When one of our dogs went missing it was the local vet that led us back together. Another neighbor had found our dog and took her in for a checkup. The vet recognized her from the "missing" picture that we had hung in their waiting room. I hope you find your friend.
