Changes

This time of year people start making new years resolutions. I don't really want to say I'm making a "resolutions," but I have been thinking about what I would like to do this year. What path will I be going down? Where will I be (figuratively) this time next year? And I quot Aerosmith," If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always got." Makes since, huh?

Then I got to thinking about the people I read about in my homesteading magazines. They all talk about getting out into the country. Raise some animals, grow a garden, "live" off the land. If only they could get some land! Well, me and Hubby HAVE land. We grow a garden, and we raise animals. But, I want to do more.I want to USE our land more.  I want to get to where most of our food comes from our farm. Milk from goats, meat from cattle, chickens, and fish from our pond, and all the veggies we can stuff our faces with from our garden. I would like to eat out less, go to the grocery store less, and just stay home more. I enjoy my home! So why do I always feel like I have to be going somewhere, eating out, or have to have the newest gadget?

Well, I've had enough. Enough, I say! No more eating out every time we have to go into town. No more going and getting the latest gadget. No more running to the grocery store every other day. It's time I live the life that I want to live. The life that has line dried clothes, and homemade breads, and free range chickens in it's future. The life that I love! Time to get off my butt and not make excuses on why the chicken pen is not cleaned out or why I haven't made dinner, so we can go out to eat. I don't like fast food anyway. Why do I feel like I have to have it?  I don't want the mainstream lifestyle. So once again," If I always do what I've always done, I'll always get what I've always got."  Time for me to make that change.

So until next time,

Small Farm Girl, ch,ch,ch, changin....hehehehe

I am feeling the same way - although for me it's both a choice and a necessity, which kind of lights a fire under my behind....

Its easy to make those changes once you are determined too! I have finaly quite buying so much grocery store bread and making more at home. Using different types and varities.. It makes mealtimes more interesting! Need inspiration watch cooking shows or go to Allrecipes.com.
GOod luck You can do this!

Good for you! Just remember it can't all change at once or you'll get burned out, take it one step at a time.
I make our bread once a week( in summer when we're eating more cold meals, twice weekly or double my batch) I store the bread in the frig, to keep it from molding so quickly( a hint for ya*wink*)

As for being tired and no having dinner made, how about making a menu for each week and sticking to it( that really helped me and Cortney and I also take turns fixing the meals, especially when I'm being lazy*wink*)

As for eating out, I remember this being a challenge for us( really our kids), so I always packed goodies and water or iced tea along with us, then there is NO excuse to NEED to stop, and you know what it worked! Take cookies, trailmix, granola, something good with you and don't forget your drink either.LOL!!!

You go for it, you won't be disappointed :o)

My only advice (I know you didn't ask, but heck -- I'll give it anyways,)

...don't take on too much all at once. Start a couple of new ventures and see how it goes. I'm constantly biting off more than I can chew and in the end, I'm exhausted and have no time to enjoy the fruits of my labors.

Other than that, I say go for it! It's a very fulfilling life. :)

Thanks for all the encouragement! I REALLY need it! lol. I do understand though, one step at a time. I've made a few steps over time. I just want to add more steps. hehehehe

Now that we're approaching Cliff's retirement, I realize how much it costs to eat out, and how many groceries I could have bought with that money... even at fast food places! Cliff wouldn't care if we ever ate out; I enjoy it sometimes.

Change is good. I've got lots of big changes going on. One of them is to become more self-sufficient on the farm.
