Fiber Animal?

A few months ago I thought that I might want to get a fiber animal. You know, try to spin my own yarn. Not that I knit anything. I don't even know how to knit. But, I think one day I might learn. lol. So I thought I wanted a fiber animal. This is NOT what I was talking about.

I mean, come on! Look at all of this hair!!!!! This will happen at least 5 more times this summer. He has soooo much hair.

"You know you love me. Even though I shed."

Ya, I'm afraid I do. Anyone want some dog hair?

So until next time,

Small Farm Girl, dog lover.

This made me remember along time ago I saw, maybe it was on the local news, about a woman who would spin wool out of folks dog's hair and make them sweaters! I hope those folks never wore them in the rain, that wet dog smell you know!

There are a lot of spinners out there who would love his hair. By the way there is even a lady who would spin bear hair and there are even people who spin bison, possum and cat hair. After you wash it it doesnt smell like the animal and they say its really durable yarn.

I can see I'm not the only one who thinks you may have something there. People want unique things.

I say spin up the hair and sell stuff from it. You'll probably make a tidy sum. :o)

Awe he shakes! Super cute! I have sheep... their wool sucks for knitting... and it's a lot of work to spin your own yarn...

Ha, I had the same experience with our "fiber animal", Waylon, yesterday...could've knitted a blanket with all the hair that came off of him! So cute!

I raise Shetland sheep and sell handspun yarn at the local farmers' market, you would not believe how many people ask me if I will spin their dog's hair (no)....one lady said that she had been saving it for three years...I don't know..that seemed a little creepy LOL.

is your dog a st. bernard? if so, maybe you can help me? my dog, a chow chow, was sitting with my husband at a park on leash a couple weeks ago and two st. bernards charged from about 100 feet away off leash and attacked my dog. they bit her mouth and neck. she is ok but i was so surprised that st. bernard.s would do this.

Wow! That is horrible that they attact your dog. Luke has gotten territorial as he has aged. He doesn't like other dogs comming into his yard. He is very bad about chasing coyotes. I will say though, when dogs have "buddies", they are more brave and have more of a tendency to attack. Sorry to hear about your dog. I'm glad it's okay now.

I have seen dog yarn for sale in stores in California. I once sent a large zip lock bag of it to a spinning friend who was always joking about making yarn out of my sheltie...he had just had a bath so I popped the brushings into the ziplock and put an address label right on the see through pacakge and sent it to her...She spun it and knitted it up in combination with some other wools. When the hat-scarf arrived, the dog ran across the room to sniff at it...or should I say sniff at "himself?"
