When we get our upstairs done on our house, and we get out of this basement, I'm considering getting a gas stove to cook on. Now, I know I will like cooking on it better because of the instant heat and such but, I've heard that propane stoves leave a film on everything in the kitchen. I've never had a gas stove, just electric so I have no idea. Is this just something that the old stoves did? Are they better now? I really don't want to have to wipe everything down all the time. I know me and I just wont do it. I also know that a film on everything in my kitchen would DRIVE ME CRAZY!!!
So, the question of the day is.....What do you cook with? Gas(propane) or electric.
SMF, question asker..er
P.s. I already have a wood stove that I cook on and love it. But, I have that as a back up and not my main cooking stove.

I've been using propane for 6 years and no film at my house...
Enjoy
We have also used propane for about 7 years w/o film.
Sorry, no answer here as we've only cooked with electric and on the wood stove here, although back in the 'burbs we had a natural gas stove.
I'd be interested in the comments also as DH has been talking about hooking up to propane here JIC.
I have cooked with propane for 25 years and never had a film on anything. Much more economical than electric and great if the power goes out, you can still cook!
No film, and have cooked with propane for most of my life. And I agree with Homestead Lady. In fact, that's the main reason we keep on using a propane cookstove. You would be surprised how much heat four little burners can give out if there is no electricity on a cold winter day.
We use propane in our new house and at first had some black marks on the bottom of our pans and our flame was yellow instead of blue. We quickly discovered that we had to install the special conversion burners that came with it because it was set up for natural gas. Since then no problems and no mess. I don't think I could ever go back to electric!
Nope, no film - you'll like cooking with gas!
I had electric all my life, until we retired to our cottage. Here I have gas, and would never go back to electric. (Oh maybe when I make long grain rice-- that worked better on electric for me anyway.) We've been here two years full time, and no film. Must be an old wives tale.
I have electric myself but I do like the natural gas stove. I didn't know they made Propane stoves. I have 2 propane fireplaces and we don't have any film....debbie
Love my gas/propane stove! No 'extra' film....except when cooking bacon.
I have been cooking on propane 11 years, no film. Now grease spatter is another story.
I've had propane for years. Personally love cooking on gas hate baking in a gas oven so my current stove is dual fuel. It is also a Jenn-air. I do NOT recommend Jenn-air under any circumstances. We had to buy one because we needed a down draft stove and they are the only company that makes one. The reason I don't like it is because you can't turn the flame down enough on three of the four burners to keep things from burning. (Fourth burner has a melt setting that I actually can cook things like eggs and simmer soups). I read this in a review and thought the person was nuts. When my friend went to get new appliances I told her to come try mine first. She couldn't believe it. She bought a kitchen aid propane stove and loves it. I love it too when I go there and cook on her stove. Other than that I love cooking on propane. But here in the Northwest Electric is a renewable resource due to hydroelectric power. Just a thought.
Gas, definitely. I've cooked on both and gas seems to cook more evenly than electric. Not sure why that's the case, but it is.
And I disagree with Sista on Jen-Aire. We're on our second Jenn-Aire downdraft (first was electric, then we remodeled and switched to gas.) I LOVE our 48" Jenn-Aire Pro that we got at a clearance outlet for a song. We have no problems with controlling the flames. Maybe your stove is defective?
And, BTW, you should really consider taking word verification off for your comments. I had all kinds of trouble leaving this. It's awful!
My sister-in-law has a propane JennAir and has had lots of problems as well. I have a Dacor dual fuel (NG) and LOVE it. Never used propane. Right not I don't need to because I have NG available, but it is good to hear that folks love their propane.
