Things I Haven't Done In A Long Time

Ok, I did it. I HAD to go to the grocery store. I haven't been to the grocery store in a VERY long time, other than just to get lunch meat and things for Hubby's lunch for work. But, I was running out of my staples. I was down to my last bag of flour! I don't ever like my pantry to be that low.

Anyway, I went to the grocery store. I was shocked! The prices were up soooooo much! Some things I thought that I was going to get wasn't put in my shopping cart because of price.  I'm soooo glad I had a garden this year. And, I'm glad I have my own beef and chickens. WOW! I started all of this self sufficiency stuff just for fun. Now, it's more like a necessity. I sure would hate to live where I couldn't have my garden and animals. I feel blessed.

Another thing that I did this weekend that I haven't done in years is, ride a motorcycle. Yep, I got up the nerve to ride a motorcycle with Hubby. At first, I was trying to come up with excuses for me to never ride with him again. But, by the end of the ride I was more relaxed and kind of enjoying it.  I could possible do it again. hehehehe. (And don't worry Mom, we wore helmets.)

So until next time,

Small Farm Girl, motorcycle momma

Some of most relaxing times I have had was riding my bike in the country. It's all fun and games until a bee flies down your woman's shirt and she tries undress and babjump off at 50 mph. Yup, that was real fun.

Thanks MDR, I have something to look forward too. lol

The prices have gone up for sure! I can't believe how expensive things are getting. Just buying the necessities our grocery bill went up! I wish we had more space to grow our own meat too...it would help a ton!

lol! Down the shirt is bad, but right in the lip at 70. . . my lip was swollen a good week.

This is the first year in almost 6 yrs that I was forced to do the grocery store thing. $4 for 1lbs of butter!?! I think I could charge a tad more for mine next year ;)

Wheat, corn and soy as well as beef with sky rocket shortly because of the heartland droughts.

Sounds as if you were living dangerously from start to finish! Grocery store shopping to motorcycles! I'm with you on growing crops and raising your own meat...much better than being forced to buy mass produced foods that are vastly reduced in quality compared to home grown/raised varieties. Absolutely!

Melissa E....I think it's amazing what you do on your little patch of Earth.

Phelan...Great, now I have THAT to look forward to also. lol. Hey, put lipstick on it and say it's the new look. lol

Lana.... I'm right there with ya! Homegrown is sooooo much better!

might as well get used to the wretched prices. Don't see them going down in the future. I'd rather eat home grown any day! ...debbie

My brother was riding his bike and ran into a swarm of knats. They were in his eyes, mouth and all over his face. The next time he went home to ride his bike he had a full helmet with a shield...LOL. Grocery prices are up and the packages are getting smaller. I've heard they are going to be going up so much that we will need to spend up to 40% of our pay on them...so glad we garden and have chicks...

It has been a sad homesteading year for us down in Texas. No gardens because of the drought and no hay for livestock.Feed, groceries and hay are outrageous. I need to get the heck out of Texas!

The more you ride, the more you relax. We rode Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Lovely weather for it.

I am so glad to hear you were shocked about the grocery prices. I was beginning to think I had been in a long sleep and just woke up or something. What the...?!

Debbie...That's what I'm afraid of.

Denise...We wear full face helmets too. We don't have a windshield. We are wimps. lol

Melodie...We would be glad to have you here in Ky. hint, hint.

Donna...I started to relax as the ride went on. But, the dogs still made me stiffin up a bit. lol

Michaele...I thought the same thing. It doesn't make me happy. grrr.

Never been on a bike... hate to go grocery shopping too. I get home and look at the small amount I bought, then at the receipt and think 'this is all I got and I spent HOW MUCH!' Anyways, all the more reason I grow my own! Glad you had fun on the bike though!
A bee down the shirt does not sound fun...

We really don't grocery shop either, but last night we had to go out a buy a loaf of bread (i know...i know..)and lemme tell you, $13.81 for a half gallon of milk, one loaf of bread, 2 big boxes of pop-tarts (for hubs), and 3/4 pound of brick cheese.
And don't get me started on the cost of butter. I want a dairy goat so badly, but Chris won't budge. Complains about the cost of dairy all right, but refuses to get a goat. *lesigh*

Yep, you can just watch the prices go up and up and up ... Funny my pay check doesn't go up and up and up tho.
It is great to have to land to do for your family.
Hard work but well worth it when you go to the store.
And I got tired of always being on the back of hubby's Harley ... So I bought my own ... and sold it just before we moved here.
Neither of us get much seat time now.
Have a great weekend!

Hi, Saw where you stopped by today!
I am with you on grocery prices! Isn't it crazy? I don't see how people with huge families exist in today's times....Maybe by gardens and a very close eye on store prices.....Love your blog by the way....Have a great evening...
