Good Things Come In Three's

It was a pretty good around here today. We finally got a live person on the phone and told them that the person they were trying to reach did not live here. They told us that they would take our names off of the calling list. Good thing #1.

We FINALLY got all of the burrs out of the horses manes. Good thing #2.

Oh, and good thing #3?

We got a saddle on Scout for the first time!!!! He done really good too! We found out that if you went slow with him, he would get spooked. But, if you would just throw things around him, he didn't really mind. Sure he shied a little when I went to place the saddle on his back, but it was a big scary thing getting ready to attack him. After putting the saddle up close to his head a couple times, he didn't mind it at all. We cinched him up tight and everything. I'm sooooo proud of him. Hopefully we(Hubby) will be riding him before the weekend.

I will do any ground work when it comes to horses. That is my favorite part. Since I worked at the racetrack in Columbus Oh, I have loved ground work. I don't need to ride the horse to enjoy the training. Plus, since I have gotten older than 18, it hurts to hit the ground(Imagine that). Not that I have ever been thrown from a horse before. I haven't. But I have bailed a few times. lol. I was thrown from a donkey before, but that's another story for another time.

Anyway, three good things have happened today. Now, if only we can keep it up this whole week.

So until next time.....

Small Farm Girl, wanta be horse trainer.

That's great! Isn't it nice to have a sensible horse. Mo was so easy to break and when we started working him with the harness, well... from past experience( dealing with race horses too) I was expecting him to blow a cork when we lifted up the harness and then stretched it out over him, nope he was calm and unworried. Then when we started adjusting the straps, hooking it up to the collar and getting the bridle with blinders on, again nothing he was calm. When we had him all harnessed up Mike asked me to lead him forward slowly while he worked from behind. I actually put the chain over his nose, expecting him to blow up and try to take off, again he plodded along like a pro, it was truly amazing! After a few times of me leading Mike began driving him from behind and he did great, other than he was sort of all over the place. Again after a few weeks of success, we hooked up a single tire for him to drag, but went back to me leading him just in case, again he did nothing, but pull and really enjoyed it. Now he sees us coming with the harness he gets all excited, he really enjoys it. Cortney likes it when she gets pulled on the tube in winter.

Scount is going to be a stout horse, how old is he? Is he a paint? Will you keep him or train and sell him?

Scout must be another "Wonder Horse". He looks like a Paint horse. I had 2 Paints and just love the breed. They do have nice temperments for the most part. Glad to hear you were able to get rid of your nasty caller...and I bet your happy to remove all the burrs. They are hard to get rid of for sure!!! I liked doing the ground work too. It's fun and you see results from all your patient work. Good luck with the breaking. I bet it'll be a cinch!! ...debbie
