Neighbors

We are getting neighbors. The land across the road was for sale for a while. Oh how I dreaded the thought of a trailer park going in there. Those seem to be popping up all over around here. People buying large parcels of land. Land that use to be someones farm, then splitting it up in to smaller pieces. People bring in trailers until that's all you see for miles. Not that there is anything wrong with trailers themselves. It's just seems that when you get a lot of them in an area, you end up with a few people who you really don't want to live beside. I just didn't want my "little house on the prairie" to be upset by "MTV cribs."

Anyway,(I kind of got off course)a young feller bought over 50 acres. Yea!!!!!! No splitting the farm up.But,(get ready for it)he told us today that the reason he bought the land was to homestead on. Double YEA!!!He and his soon to be wife are going to have their own little homestead too. With goats and milk cows and herbs and chickens and.....(I could go on and on.)I'm so excited. Now I can talk to someone face to face about the things that are important to me. I can tell them about how I am thinking about getting a milk goat and they won't look at me with a disgusted look on their face and say,"Why?" Triple YEA!!!!!!!We are already talking about swapping seeds and books about gardening. I couldn't have hand picked a better neighbor for us to have.

Now, what has been going on around here this week. First of all, I didn't realize that it has been so long since I last posted. Time just seems to be flying by. It's going to be (do I dare say it?) Christmas real soon. I would tell you what I'm going to get my family for presents this year but, they read this too. (No cheating Lil Sis!) Pretty soon we will be cranking up the wood burner for some serious heat. Already the nights are in the lower 50's. I love this time of year.

Boy, this post is all over the place. Since the garden has pretty well pooped out, I'm hoping to blog more. We shall see how that goes. lol

Until next time......

Small Farm Girl, neighbor.

SFG,

Drat, I closed the tab before the post went through. That extra code step got me. LOL

Your neighbor sounds wonderful. Such great news. :) It's so nice to have people to share with, work with, bounce ideas around with, etc. And you'll be able to share what you already have learned about your local micro-climate and soil.

Yeah! ~Faith

Congrats for getting a good neighbor!! Makes all the difference in the world.

As for getting milk goats, I LOVE my Nigerian Dwarf goats. Nice temperments, small size, good milk, and cute as buttons.

Oh fun! I'm so happy for you. There is always fear in my heart that the 20 acres across from us will be sold and they will build on it. Right now the other neighbors own it, but they are talking of selling. It wouldn't be sold as anything smaller than 20 acres (community law) but right now I don't have to look at anything but an open field. As for dairy goats...I harrass Malcolm constantly. I am going to have French Alpine dairy goats one day. I've already planned my little dairy. Can't wait!

SFG, that is GREAT NEWS about your new neighbor. We are kind of in a similar situation..the home behind us on the hill is on the market, but considering the price, doubt there will be any rif-raf moving in..Another positive to the story is that the current owner owns all the property around us and is only selling a 3 acre parcel that the house sits on, he is keeping the other hundreds of acres along with his man cave and pond...we just pray the new owners like dogs, random firing of guns in the night, live battle of the band concerts until wee hours of the morning, and the annual "ride-in" where we typically host a hundred or so Harley riders from around the state that we let camp out on the property for three days!! Hahahaha...all in fun! R Dean :-))

SFG,
Yay for you. There is nothing that can disturb your peace and harmony like crappy neighbors. I speak from experience :-(

Where does your title picture come from? It looks like Amish country and probably is, so do you have Amish in your area?

Great neighbors! So exciting! I would LOVE to buy 50 acres and have a bunch of homesteading neighbors. That would be a dream.

SFG,
Wonderful for you to have neighbors moving in that you have so much in common with. Sigh, I wish we have more likeminded people in our area. Most days I feel like a fish out of water, that is why I so enjoy everyone elses homesteading blogs, finally people with whom I have common interests. Don't forget me way up here in MT, I still enjoy your letters and we can swap seeds and stuff too*wink*
Blessings,
Kelle
