What a great Saturday! Me and MIL went to an animal swap at a local Tractor Supply store. It was great! I sold a few goats, some rabbits and I broke down and sold my young milk cow Annabell. On top of all of that, I had people asking for more! I finally feel like our little farm is getting off the ground. You can work and work, but until you see some money rolling back in, you always wonder if it's what you should be doing. Well, yesterday proved that I am doing the right thing. Now that I have a nice outlet for some of the farm things,(the auction is still trying to get underway, just waiting on some red tape junk.) I really need to start working toward getting more things to sell.
We are still waiting for babies to arrive. I swear if someone would look at my goats the wrong way, they look like they would pop. HAVE BABIES ALREADY!!!! I'm getting up a few time a night going out and checking on them. I think they really just have a pillow under their pelts, setting back and laughing at me. Fooled her!!!! Ha ha ha!
I think I've decided to change George's name to Bob. Bob BARKER!!!! He barks ALL. NIGHT. LONG! I think he's afraid of the dark. lol. It doesn't matter what it is, he's going to bark at it. Last night he was barking at the cattle. You know, the cattle that has lived on this farm longer than he has. Those scary, mean, ferocious cattle that like to eat goats. Auuggghhhh!!! I went out last night to shine the light out in the field, you know, out of some chance there IS a dinosaur, mutant, swamp monster out there. George followed everywhere that I would shine the light and he would bark at it. I think he has a screw loose. And right now, he's sleeping all nice and sweet. I think I will go and sneak up on him and bark my fool head off. See how he likes it.
So until next time,
Small Farm Girl, I can't believe I'm barking at a dog. Now who's got the screw loose?

Ha, I'd be barking at him, too! Make him stay up all day with you!
Our Cocker Spaniel barks at anything that moves. But only during the day. When the grands were visiting, and it was nap time I put a muzzle on the dog. He couldn't open his mouth to bark. Now I only have to show him the muzzle.
Your post made me laugh because of the barking--I've been there too, and it's probably a good thing we don't have neighbors! :-)
I'm glad the auction went well, and I hope your newest additions arrive soon and safely!!
You never know! He might have picked up a scent of a coyote or something. Might be a good thing is he barking. Glad you got some money out of your livestock!! Be patient - it takes a lot of red tape to open a business. ...debbie
Keep doing what your doing. It will pay off over time and the word of your good animal stock will get out to the locals... Good Job!!
We had a dog named Bob Barker. He was a chow mix (not my favortie) but he wound up a wonderful friend, and lived till he was almost 15 years old.
His bark was to say "Hey! Sooo glad you are home and will talk back to me".
I agree, try to make him stay up all day and maybe he'll sleep all night. Well, probably not but it MIGHT make you feel better!
George is doing his Job!! Most LGD will bark at night.. its their way of warning off intruders. After he learns not to bark at everything he will probably only bark occasionally when needed. When we had LGD's I could tell a difference in their barks.. One is just checking in.. everything is okay.. Then there is the intruder bark! I was dead asleep and heard this bark. I jumped up out of bed and went out to check.. He had a possum cornered trying to get my chickens.. Kyle went out and shot the possum.. and the dog went back to work.. Most LGD's work better in pairs not much can over power 2 of them.. They will roam at night and check things barking to signal each other everything is okay or not okay.. They are awesome dogs to watch in action..
he is learning to do his job...but sounds like he might need a little help/training in the barking area. i live way out in the sticks and we hear barking all the time from neighbors dogs a mile or so away. after awhile, you can tell what they are barking about by the tone/sound. i have to chinese sharpies and they bark only when they think we are being intruded upon by strangers. then they also have barks that are to notify us of the mailman, parcel postman, friends, relatives etc... they do not bark at the deer or wildlife unless their own space is being invaded. we praise them for their good work with a treat, but there are times when they might be trying to fool us with a warning-they dont get a cookie for that.
congrats on getting some things sold! it's always nice to have some money coming in instead of always going out.
can't wait to see some pics of the babies that hopefully come soon!
Small farm girl, thanks so much for stopping by my blog. I'm REALLY enjoying reading your posts. I'll have to dive into more when I've got more time. I used to have Pyrenees..they are bred to bark all night..that's what they do to keep predators away. Then you'll find them usually sleeping all day long. That's just typical of the breed.
I'll be back to read more. I'm getting into the healthy eating and exercise too..or, rather, trying to.

Our dogs at a squirrel farting outside, I swear. I look out as they`re acting like Cujo at the windows and don`t see one blessed thing!
What kind of rabbits do you raise?
Kelly, we raise meat rabbits. A mixer of New Zealand Whites, New Zealand Blacks, and Sanaans(sp?). We also have a few Ca. We just mix them all up. lol
That's awesome! I have an adorable year old holland lop boy and a five month old girl. I got the boy for my daughter a pet and I wanted to use his poo in the compost pile. I wish I would have gotten meat rabbits first because now I don't know if I could process a rabbit :/ Do you eat your rabbits, just sell them, or both?
I eat and sell my rabbits. I didn't make my meat rabbits pets so that I would feel guilty when I had to butcher them. lol. The poo works wonders in the garden!
