Got Milk?

Meet the newest addition. This is Annabell. She is our new milk cow. We think she is a mixture of Jersey and(maybe)Angus.

She is a cute little thing. She will be smaller than our beef cattle. Yes, we have our goats for milk and such, but I just think I'll like the butter from a cow better than from our goats. I've tried, and tried, but I can still taste "goat". lol. Don't hate me goat people!!!!!! Don't worry, I'll still keep my goats. I'm just going to try a milk cow too. We shall see. If it doesn't work out, I've already had a million (ok, maybe not a million) people offer to buy her off of me.

As you can see, she just HAD to have her close up picture.

And not to be out done, George had to have his too. Maybe a little too close.

So until next time,

Small Farm Girl, milk cow owner

Congrats!!! She's a cutie for sure. It's probably a good thing that we don't have more room here or I'm pretty sure I'd have a milk cow too! We are just going to have to "go for the goats". I don't even know if I like goat milk! (blushing) but I'll learn to love it!

Hey Sci, if you like milk from the store, you like goat milk. It really does taste the same.

SLF...Well, thank you very much!

Congrats on your new little milk machine!! Oh, how I wish we could get cream (easily, that is) from our goats! Cream is the only thing making me want a cow. Butter, ice cream....more butter. Oh, you lucky, lucky gal! :)

What kind of goats do you have? Because my goat's milk does NOT taste like goat's milk from the store. If you can taste goat, then something's wrong... of course part of that is because my goats are Nigerian Dwarf Dairy goats, and they have high butter fat content in their milk... (which makes it sweet.) How you process your milk post milking makes a difference too... Sweet cow!! Can't wait to hear about her production!

Candy C. Why thank you! And yes, I'm still a goat person too. lol

Ruta, I think she cute too.

Carolyn Renee, Exactlly!!!!! I want some BUTTER!!!!!!

Rachel, I have Nubians for my milk. I can drink the milk with no problem. I love it! But for some reason, when I make butter or cheese with it, it has a slight "goat" taste.

Interesting... I wonder what's causing that? I've never made butter with NDG milk, but I've had cheese... and it was not goaty at all... Curious!

That is weird that it doesnt taste goaty when you drink it plain.. Usually when mine gets an off flavor they need more mineral or a dose of Vit A&D.. I so wish I coudl collect enough cream to make butter but.. It gets used.. drank and gone before I can ever get enough cream!Lol

Oh and cute calf!.. I am not a cow lover except for the one that comes on my plate Med-rare!Nubians also have high butter fat and it really should not taste goaty.

Oh, I am so jealous. Don't even have goats, and I am dying for a dairy animal. She's beautiful.
