The Blahs

That's right, I have the blahs. No motivation what so ever. I think it's the heat. I don't want to do anything. I have no energy. I have to force myself to get up off the couch. Is this what they call the " Dog Days of Summer?" Well, if it is, I don't like it.

We got our electric bill this weekend. It MORE than DOUBLED! I about fainted.  I can understand going up in the summer because of the air conditioner. But, doubling? No way!!!! Something has to be done. We put up blinds on the windows hoping they would keep out some of the sun and heat. I miss the view outside thought.

I am longing for Fall. The crisp mornings, the frost covered grass, leaves starting to change. I can hardly wait. I know, don't wish my life away. But, I'm getting really tired of this heat.

Now, for some news around the farm. Me and Hubby have decided to move our chickens down to his dad's house. The chickens have been eating our tomatoes as soon as they start turning. We were going to put them in with the goats but with this heat we haven't been able to build them a new chicken house. We can't use their old coop, because a cow got out and went through the fence of the coop.  Oh well, it was either move them or butcher them. Once again, too hot to butcher. Oh well.

So until next time,

Small Farm Girl, hot

P.s. Wow, I didn't realize how much a "Debbie Downer" I  am right now. :o)

Right there with you...

I didn't have a name for it until now. But "The Blahs" really works for me.

It's alright, who could be perky in this heat? My mama always says, this weather is fit for neither man nor beast. I'm so over summer.

I don't blame you for moving the chickens. Ours cant get to the tomatoes but they dont let any beans grow on the bottom half of the vines on the fence. Luckily the top half of the vines produce plenty of beans they can't reach. But I did want to butcher them yesterday (they were being spoiled and in the way!). It's miserable here and I dread our electric bill too.

The heat has caused the blahs here too! This heat is sweltering! I don't want to do anything. I go out periodically and turn on the hose for my chickens to have their mudhole...they love it. If I didn't have AC, I'd be right out there with 'em.

We are starting to see losses in our animals. We water three times a day and wet down the shaded spots and still one of our geese fell dead while walking to the pond. I don't know what else to do.
Our electric is over 450 and it is still hot in the house. I don't know how much more we can take.
Didn't mean to be a downer but you started it. :)

I think the 'blahs' is spot on!? Have you got long to go before your weather usually turns? Until then keep cool!

freerangegirl...Hopefully we won't have too much longer. It usually gets cooler in another month or so.

It really will be fall before we know it, but not before we WANT it I guess. 106 here today without factoring in the humidity.

You must be dealing with humidity. That is the worst.
We've got the heat, but only in the 80's. Our monsoon rains are cooling everything off each afternoon and we're down into the 70's. It's glorious!
We've not even hooked up our swamp cooler this summer (the SW's version of A/C), because it's been perfectly comfie in the house with the blinds drawn and the windows open and fans whirling. Sitting out on the porch in the shade is even better because we got those cooling breezes.
So, our electric bill is virtually nil, but for a while there, before our monsoons started our water bill was horrific! We have community well water and I got aggressive with watering my small grassy back yard that I use for hand grazing my horse, and watering our fruit trees(which didn't blossom this year due to our drought, high winds and late freeze...so no fruit), and watering my veggie garden.
I was watering 3 times a day because it was just so dry here. No rain in a year!
But then two weeks ago, the monsoons arrived...and voila, a low water bill because I've not had to water anything at all because it rains for a little while every day. Yay!

By the way, have you thought about buying some bird netting from your Home Depot or Lowes? That's what I have on my garden and it keeps the birds, bunnies and chickens out of my garden.

I hear you on this heat and the crazy high electric bill! We had the same problem with our chickens after the bluberry bushes were planted out in our yard. They took high intrest in them, so I got a few yards of black netting from our local hardware store, drapped it over, and the chickens haven't been back since! I hope you can get something worked out so your cluckers can come home again. Nothing more tasty than eggs from your own flock!
