Feeling Hot,Hot,Hot!

What a wonderful weekend! Friends, family and fireworks! What more can you ask for? Oh yea, I can ask for it to COOL DOWN! It's HOT HOT HOT! (Hey that sounds like a song!) The poor garden is really feeling it too. It's looking pitiful. It is just not wanting to produce. I believe this year's garden is one of the worst that I have ever had. It's been too hot to get out and work in it.

Something is happening to my squash and zucchini. I see them starting to grow, then in about 2 or 3 days, I go out to pick them and they are gone. I think I'm going to call the FBI. The case of the missing squash. You think they will come and investigate? lol.

The tomatoes look like they are anorexic. Little twigs with tiny leaves. Hopefully they will come out of it. Poor things have had a rough year, flooding in the spring, and extreme heat now. If it starts to snow in August, I'm going to give up. lol.

One thing that is growing really good is the wild blackberries. Take a look at these babies.

Yes, that is a quarter! It won't take very many of these to make a batch. lol.

I guess I have blackberry jam in my future. (and pies, and cobbler, and smoothies,and..........)

So until next time,

Small Farm Girl, blackberry queen.

Your blackberries are beautiful. I buy two batches of Blackberries every time I go. I don't look at the price because I won't buy them if I do. It's supposed to be 97 here today so I know you are about the same. Can you put a lawn sprinkler on your garden? or is it too far away and too big? Are the animals doing ok in this heat? Lincoln doesn't like to go out in this heat. I like your photo of the fireworks!! Stay inside where it's cool! That's what I'm doing!! ...debbie

OMG! Those blackberries are terrific! I had a squirrel eat more than his share of my garden this year...but it didn't bother my squash...

Wow! Those BBs are amazing! I've got my domesticated BBs getting ready to produce here pretty quickly.

My veggie garden has been a bit disappointing this year as well. And everything here is crispy and brownish. No end of heat in sight and no talk of rain either. I feel like I'm back out west again.

Aw man, my hubby would be so jealous, blackberries are his favorite. His folks live in the mountains here in NC and have beautiful blackberries, if they get to them before the bears! We started some blackberry bushes this year but figure it will be several seasons before we get quarter sized ones!

My garden this year is nothing to brag about. Tomatoes? blight. Potatoes? Blight. Zucchini? Squash bugs. *sigh*

Oh Man, I wish you were closer, I'd trade ya some raspberries for blackberries! We can't grow those here it's to cold for them in winter.

It's been so cool and wet here so far that everything is a bit stunted. The sunflowers, raspberries and several other crops are about half the size and beginning to ripen/ flower already.Makes me wonder what lies in store for us this coming winter?
Blessings,
Kelle

Your goats look great! My garden is the worst in years too. First cold and rain, then hot and dry. We are still a month away from blackberries here.

I love blackberries! I grew up in western PA and they grew wild there, but not as big as these ones!
