There Here!

We went down to see Catherine of Kentucky Hollows and brought home these little darlings. The dark one we have named Mudd. The lighter one's name is Tipper. She has a black spot on the tip of her nose. I've thought and though of a name for the brown one. The name "Mudd" just stuck. Hehehehe

Aren't they the cutest things you have ever seen? They are the size of a house cat. They will only get a little bigger. Average size around 19 inches. Can you say,"AAAAAAAWWWWWWW!"? We wanted to start out with the smaller goats just to see how much milk we will use. If we use a lot, we'll get bigger goats. Can't wait until we start milking.(Remind me of this moment if I start complaining about having to milk them all the time. lol)

Right now though, I'm just going to enjoy them.

Oh, and for more good news, Hubby got another job! A job that is close to home. Today is his first day. He called during his lunch break. So far, he likes it very much. I'm so glad. What a good anniversary weekend? Goats and a new job. What more can a girl ask for?

So until next time,

Small Farm Girl, goat owner.

What little cuties. You will enjoy them immensely. How much milk do you get out of a small goat like that?

Thanks everyone for your comments.
Russell, once the babies are off, we will get 1/2 a gallon each. So sence we have two, we will get 1 gallon a day. Once I get my little hand milker, it will be really easy to milk them.(When they get older of course.)

Congrats on the new additions... how freaking cute they are! I would like to have a couple of goats one day when we get moved.
I'm happy to hear the hubster got a job closer to home. I bet you both are going to be much happier. Seriously, you can get that much milk out of that little goat? Wow!

Ooooh Mudd and Tipper! I love them! How absolutely adorable!! Are you going to make cheese too? You are becoming a true farmer! Horses, cows, chickens, dogs and now cute goats! How old do they have to be before you can milk them??

SciFi, that amount is how much their mommy gave. So I'm going to "say" they will give that much.

Debbie, I'm going to TRY to make some cheese. I've never tried before, but there is a first time for everything. They can be breeded at 10 months of age. But, I think I'm going to wait just a little longer. Can't be to careful with theses cuties. lol

Congrats on the goats! AND the new Job! Thats all great! Just remember they may not give that full amount of milk till they are a little older. Goats grow untill about 3 and every kidding will give a little more milk. My almost 3 yr old was milking a gallon a day on her 2nd freshening at peak. Her mom who is 6 yrs old peak out at gallon and a half to almost 2 gallons then levels back out to a little over a gallon for the rest of the year. Of course these are full size dairy goats. But First fresheners wont give as much at First. Good luck!

Oh, so cute! Yay for goat milk! I prefer to drink cow milk, but I still love the ease of daily cheese-making, as well as making goat milk soap. And it's great for kefir.

Raw milk. It's the best!

Oh, I forgot to tell you "thank you" for identifying my mystery hen for me! She is very beautiful and a nice calm hen.

They are very cute but the regular milking would be enough for me to pass. I'll just come by and look at your pics instead.

Ooooooh! They are so precious! I love baby goats!
Maybe you and I can travel the milking journey together. My mini-mancha is just over 2 years old and I was planning on breeding her the previous year, but then I had my injuries and I was glad I didn't get around to it because I wasn't able to walk.
But I am planning on breeding her this Fall and hope to have kids in the Spring.....and milk, too! Wooohooo!
I want to make goats milk soap and yogurt and fresh cheese! Maybe we can share ideas, tips and support. When are you planning on breeding yours girls?

Oh! And congrats to hubby and you, too, on the new job. My hubby is still in Philly and will be there until at least Novemeber. bummer.
