So far this has been a busy weekend. Me and Hubby went to the Amish country, that is only about an hour away from our house, yesterday. We have never visited that part of the Amish community. All the things that we have ever heard about the Amish, were about the ones in northern Ohio. That's about a 5 hour drive for us. I could have kicked myself. They have just about the same thing here as they have up there. It's just not as commercialized. Which to me, is a good thing. Their stuff is still expensive though. The whole "bulk food" stores puzzle me. Aren't they suppose to be cheaper? Well, not the ones that I seen. They were MORE expensive. But, their stores were still full of non-Amish people. Do people think that since it's Amish that it's suppose to be better? Sorry, I thought M&Ms are the same anywhere you get them. Especially when they have the "M" on them. I don't know maybe I'm being too picky, but I don't think enriched flour should be over a $1 a pound. Anyway, we still had a good time. We like driving around and "exploring."

Today, we went to Hubby's family reunion. It was held at a relatives house that lived on the Ohio River. It was beautiful. I love watching that water. You see so many different things on the river. Different boats, different birds, and different barges go up and down the river all day long. I'll post some of the pictures I took later on. Anyway, we had a really nice time. We met relatives that we didn't know. Plus we got a new place to fish on the river. lol. We know there are fish there, we saw them jumping in the water.

So after the fun weekend, the holiday is going to be a "work" day for us. I can't stand not getting anything done around the house. Hubby and his dad are going to be working on the new house tomorrow. He's working on the wiring. We are soooooo close to moving in. I told him as soon as he gets electric down there, I'm moving in. I don't care if I have to use old sheets as walls. I want in my new house before our old one falls down around our heads. I'm getting excited.

Well that's all I've got for now.

Until later.......

Glad you had a good time in Amish Country. I do agree that their goods are more expensive. But sometimes it's the quality that you pay for. You'll be able to get in your new house soon enough! sometimes you run into a few snags along the way so be patient - it'll be worth the wait!!...debbie

We have some Mennonite stores here. Some of the stuff IS cheaper, and some of it is obviously commercialized.

Still, I love to go. Spices and baking goods are a great deal there. And they have canning equipment that no one else carries.

It's always fun for just visiting too.

Me too. I've got to get stuff done today!

SFG, if you haven't done so, please read my comment from your "last" post regarding potential jobs for your hubby!

Regarding Amish, we have either Amish or Mennonite around our area..Jan thinks we should inquire about them helping us build a small barn..not sure if they do that or not or how to even find out..

Good luck with your new place..send pics..everyone is anxious to see it!

oooo..didnt' know you were building! Do we get to see pictures? You should post pictures of the stages as tehy are completed!
Amish country sounds like it would be neat to see, but I get disgusted with the amount of commercialization. Pretty sad when the $ is what everyone is about. But that's the way it is!

Which Amish community did you go to? I'm curious since I live sorta near you (I'm east of Cincy).

The Amish bulk food stores we went to in northern Ohio were decent priced. At Baltic Mills, we paid 68 and 85 cents per lb for flours. Holmes county is terribly commerciallized. We went to the smaller, off-the main-road villages and had a much better time. This weekend we may go to Hardin county and see what the Amish communities have to offer there. They are not as well known as the ones in Holmes.

I agree with you on the Amish. I do like to get my spices there though. They are so much cheaper.
