We had the same problem with our chickens after the bluberry bushes were planted out in our yard. They took high intrest in them, so I got a few yards of black netting from our local hardware store, drapped it over, and the chickens haven't been back since! I hope you can get something worked out so your cluckers can come home again. Nothing more tasty than eggs from your own flock! The Kelly's Adventures in KYhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16645107231194722019noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1743489061168063955.post-27640798784727160562011-08-03T12:37:45.979-04:002011-08-03T12:37:45.979-04:00You must be dealing with humidity. Our monsoon rains are cooling everything off each afternoon and we're down into the 70's. It's glorious!
We've not even hooked up our swamp cooler this summer (the SW's version of A/C), because it's been perfectly comfie in the house with the blinds drawn and the windows open and fans whirling. Sitting out on the porch in the shade is even better because we got those cooling breezes.
So, our electric bill is virtually nil, but for a while there, before our monsoons started our water bill was horrific! We have community well water and I got aggressive with watering my small grassy back yard that I use for hand grazing my horse, and watering our fruit trees(which didn't blossom this year due to our drought, high winds and late freeze...so no fruit), and watering my veggie garden.
I was watering 3 times a day because it was just so dry here. No rain in a year!
But then two weeks ago, the monsoons arrived...and voila, a low water bill because I've not had to water anything at all because it rains for a little while every day. Yay!

By the way, have you thought about buying some bird netting from your Home Depot or Lowes? That's what I have on my garden and it keeps the birds, bunnies and chickens out of my garden.

~LisaLaughing Orca Ranchhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03562627840013868980noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1743489061168063955.post-58235127816434571112011-08-02T10:27:16.042-04:002011-08-02T10:27:16.042-04:00Maybe you need a 'Wine Carafe' to cheer yo...Maybe you need a 'Wine Carafe' to cheer you up ;0)grannyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11293514367764396439noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1743489061168063955.post-36440604698898557022011-08-02T09:08:28.893-04:002011-08-02T09:08:28.893-04:00Cheer up!! Luckily the top half of the vines produce plenty of beans they can't reach. But I did want to butcher them yesterday (they were being spoiled and in the way!). It's miserable here and I dread our electric bill too.Melissa Ehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15266528757413228807noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1743489061168063955.post-65618532298249855652011-08-01T13:38:27.065-04:002011-08-01T13:38:27.065-04:00It's alright, who could be perky in this heat?...It's alright, who could be perky in this heat?
