This year we properly fenced the veg plot and no chickens got in, but then the weather turned peculiar, and stayed peculiar for weeks and weeks, the result being no tomato harvest, no bean harvest, madly growing squash, and everything else drowning in a sea of weeds. So, not a successful year here either.

I would not call us preppers as such, but we are self sufficient with food, and our lifestyle would help keep us afloat for awhile if things got dire. I think that all we can do is keep going, and keep smiling! They could easily jump it but it messes up their ability to see what they are jumping into. It keeps out groundhogs as I have old roofing around the base but so far coons come over it.
I have come to the conclusion that there are way too many people and too many of anything lowers the value. We put a temporary electric fence around the crops such as corn that that the critters like to eat. The solar fence charger worked just fine this year. I have also heard that deer do not have very good depth perception. so if a second fence is placed a few feet outside the regular fence the deer can't tell whether they can jump it or not. Hope this helps.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
